The tallest standing stone in the British Isles, Rudston Standing Stone is a pagan site that the early Christian Church could not just destroy, so a church had to be built there instead to keep the flock on the straight and narrow rather instead of reverting to old ways. About 25ft high (7.5m) the monolith dominates the parish church and graveyard in a triumphant celebration of Neolithic stonecraft.
